WESLEY CHAPEL — Four teenagers were injured, two seriously, when a golf cart collided with a car at Overpass Road and Watergrass Parkway on Friday night, October 9, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 8:20 p.m., Tampa Bay 28 reported, citing FHP. All four people in the golf cart were thrown from it.
How the collision happened
Troopers said a 14-year-old Wesley Chapel girl was driving an E-Z-GO golf cart east on Overpass Road in the left-turn lane. A Nissan Maxima, driven by a 38-year-old Wesley Chapel man, was approaching from the opposite direction.
The girl attempted to turn left onto northbound Watergrass Parkway while facing a flashing yellow turn arrow. The cart entered the westbound Nissan’s path, and the car struck it, according to FHP’s account.
Two girls seriously injured
The 14-year-old driver and a 15-year-old girl from Odessa who was riding with her suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital. Two other passengers, both 13-year-old boys from Wesley Chapel, had minor injuries and were not taken to a hospital, troopers said.
FOX 13 reported that FHP’s report did not specify whether the Nissan driver was injured. The reports reviewed for this update did not provide a later condition for the hospitalized girls.
This update replaces the preliminary account with the reported FHP details, including the crash time, occupants’ ages and injury information.
